OMG That Song Book Tag

I decided that I wanted to break apart the reviews with a little book tag. I found this book tag on The Book Nut Blog. This book tag seems simple and fun to do. For each question, I will be giving both songs and books that go with the question. They don’t have to go together, but sometimes they may.

My Jam: A song you have to listen to no matter how many times you’ve heard it and a book that you’ll never get sick of…

I should have thought about this before I started doing this tag. I do listen to music, but it just depends on my mood. Which makes answering these questions hard. For a bad day, I go with Bad Day by Daniel Powter. If I feel like celebrating or just being in a good mood I go Mr. Saxobeat. Another song that I go to is My Favorite Things. The book for this category is The Circle Trilogy. I know that I am cheating by picking a series, but I have been reading this series every year for the past 12 years. So let’s be real here, this series belongs here, and I feel that it will be here for years to come.

Throwback: a song that reminds you of the cringeiest time in your life and a book you read that you wouldn’t like if you read it now…

I was going through my Goodreads “read” list and went back to the past, like in middle school. With that, I believe that I am going to go with The Princess Diaries series. Here is a confession, I have never finished the series. I believe that part of it is that my dad made fun of me for reading the series. I do not think that I can go back and read those first three books again. I love the movies but I just cannot go back and reread these books. Now it is time for the song. I will admit that I do not have this song on my iTunes, but it does bring me back to some good old days in middle school. The first song is Who Let the Dogs Out by Baha Men and Hot in Here by Nelly. Let’s just say that I do not want to explain these songs. Can we just move on now?

Replay: A recent song that you have on repeat and a recent favorite book…

Right now I am between Nobody But Me by Michael Buble or Good Mornin’ by Meghan Trainor. I have been in the mood to be listening to joyful songs. This is interesting because I have two books for this category. The first book in this category is the first audiobook of this year. It is The Half-life of Marie Curie, and the second book is The Martian. I just love both of these books and I am thinking about rereading them again.

Gets me: a song that is literally me and a book that is me in book form…

The book that I felt that best represents me is between The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness and Ungifted by Gordon Korman. Both of these books do describe how I feel in my life. I feel like I am the side character in which everyone else gets to do something, and they are exceptional in everything that they do. While I am just here just trying to make it to the end of the month, and just barely getting by month by month. I do not feel very gifted. I am glad when I can help others and help partake in making the world a better place, but I do not feel like I have a gift that is beneficial for the world. This one song took me a while to find. I feel like the best song that fits this category is Counting Stars by One Republic. I do feel as though this one song does encompass everything that I just said above, but with a positive twist.

WUT: A weird song that you liked anyways and a unique book that stuck out to you for some reason…

The most unique book that I have read that has stuck out to me is The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. I have only read the first book in the series, but it was too weird. This is not a weird song, but people do not associate this song with me, so others think that it is weird that I know and have it in my music collection. This song is by Kreayshawn and it is Gucci Gucci. It is a rap song.

Let’s Go: Pick your best pump-up song and a book that inspires you…

A book that has inspired me is Every Soul a Star. This book has inspired me to one day see a full solar eclipse. The song that I am picking for this section is High Hopes from Panic! At the Disco. I have been using this song to pump me up on my drive to work.

Chill: Your best chill or relaxing song and a book you’d curl up with on a rainy day…

I have two songs for this category. I love both Moonlight Sonata and Canon in D Major. These two songs are the songs that I go to when I need to calm down and relax. Surprisingly these are not my theme songs for 2020. I do not have a goto rainy day book. I would say that a great book to help pick you up and cheer up your day would be Simon Vs. The Homosapien Agenda. This was one of my quick reads that I absolutely just loved reading, and it made me super happy.

Addicting: A guilty pleasure song and a light, trashy read you can’t help but love…

I am putting Fanfic in here. Let’s be real. That is everyone who is anyone in a fandom can claim. However, romances with sex in them can be claimed as my guilty pleasure read since I do not read them as much. Example of books that meet this requirement is Well MetBringing Down the Duke, and Red, White & Royal Blue. The song that I will be putting on here is by Fifth Harmony, and that is That’s My Girl. For quite some time this was one of my workout jam songs.

Nostalgia: A throwback song you look back on fondly and a book you read and loved when you were young…

The one song that I can think of that can be placed in this category is Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles. I just love how this song makes me feel. Almost anything that my mom had to listen to when I was younger can be placed here. She likes listening to 60’s and 70’s music.

The book for this category was something that I have read in middle school. I read it for the Summer Reading program and found the title and the cover interesting and have always been glad that I have read the book. That book is The Wizard, the Witch, and the Two Girls From Jersey. This was a book that I reread a few years ago and discovered that it was still a great and fun read.

That is it. That is the OMG That Song Book Tag. Let me know if you have enjoyed this. If you have participated in this book tag, let me know down below.

Until next time,

Review #8

Dance of the GodsValley of Silence

I cannot believe how much reading I have done this week. According to my planner, I have finished two books, and I am about to finish a third and start my fourth. I either excel or fail at readathons. I am hoping that I will excel in all of my readathons. Enough about readathons, you are here for a review. Well, you are in luck because I am about to give you two reviews in one. I am going to review both the Dance of the Gods and the Valley of Silence by Nora Roberts.

Both books are part of the Circle trilogy. Dance of the Gods is book two and Valley of Silence is book three of the trilogy. I have also given a review of the first book Morrigan’s Cross. In book two, you have our six traveling from Ireland to Gaell to help form the army against the vampires and in book three you have that grand apocalyptic battle. I did give both books five out of five stars on Goodreads.

To say I love both books is an understatement. I love how much more drama Roberts put in each book and how she helps the characters grow. I also love how in the second book, Roberts let you see how people in the 21st century handle life about a thousand years into the past. It was nice to see that because in the first book she showed you how people in the past handled our present. I also like how this experience helped strengthen the bond of our six warriors. In the third book, I also love the origin stories and how she ties the origin stories to the main story and how these stories become consequences for not only the characters who origins that we are telling but to our heroes as well. In addition, I also love the ending. It is rare for a story to just give you a satisfying ending. There are no words for me to explain to you, without spoiling the book, how the ending is just wonderful. It hit the wonderful balance of tying all the loose ends while not dragging on. There are questions that I do have that are not answered, but in all the ending is just perfect.

In the end, I do recommend this series. I believe that you will have fun and enjoy the books. Just to forwarn you, there are some sex scenes in all three books, and there is also some mature content. In the third book, I will also have to give a trigger warning for rape and violence, especially in the thrid book. In all, if you want to try out Nora Roberts but don’t want the romance, I would say try this trilogy. There is romance, but it is not the focus. It is more fantasy and focusing more on the battle and saving all the worlds.

That is my review. I do hope that you have enjoyed it and that you will try this trilogy out.

The Character Book Tag

It is time for another tag post! This one, as you can tell by its title, is about the characters we have read and love(or hate). I saw it on Regan’s channel PurseProject and thought this would be fun. So let’s begin.

The Questions:
1. Who is the best kick-ass character?

Celaena Sardothien from Throne of Glass. She is an assassin as well as a girly girl, who owns who it. I love how proud she is of herself, as well as being both physically and mentally strong. She is not afraid to ask questions and prefers doing what is right.
2. Which character do you most dislike?

Oh…. Where do I begin? I somehow have a list of characters that I dislike, and amazingly they are all pretty high up there on the dislike list. Let me just list some of those characters for you.

a)Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Not only do I hate this character, but this is a shared hatred with millions of other people both real and fictional. You know it is big when you have characters help another hated and despised character do harm onto this one.

b)Dr. Caldwell from The Girl With All The Gifts.  I said it before, and I will say it again, I don’t see how this person could be the world’s most smartest mind with all the stupid choices she has made throughout the book.

c) Daisy Crispin from Perfectly Dateless. She is the main character of this book, and the main reason why I gave this book such a low rating. She started off with so much potential and strength and lost it all in the end.

d) The King of Adarlan (Don’t Know his name) from Throne of Glass. Let us just call him the king that must die. He is so desperate for power that he is willing to kill off his own subjects and children to gain more power. In addition, this guy makes rules and purposely breaks his own rules. What kind of a leader is he?
3. If you could date any fictional character who would it be and why?

James “Jem” Carstairs from The Clockwork Angel. Jem is very sweet and gentle and was welcoming to Theresa.
4. If you could change a character in any way what would it be?

Aaron Tyler from Trouble. The one thing that I would love to change would be his courage to tell his best friend what really happened that afternoon when everything went down. I would also love it if Aaron realizes that the situation was not his fault.
5. What character to you made all the wrong choices that didn’t add anything to the book?

Aouda from Around the World in 80 Days. The chick did nothing in the book for the exception of being rescued and saying yes to Mr. Fogg’s proposal. The most useless character in all of history.
6. Which character was the best villain whom you love to hate?

Lilith from the Circle Trilogy. If the lady wasn’t just plain evil, have a desire to suck my blood, or just place me as her lowly servant, I would label her as a kick-ass character. She is really good at planning, fighting, and standing up to what she believes in. In addition, she is really good at caring about others in her own way. It is a little sad that she seems a little psychotic.
7. A favorite side-kick character with the most heart?

Brynn from the 80AD series. I love this character! What makes him a great sidekick is the fact that he is not perfect. He is a thief, he tends to lie and cheat, but he is lovable and hilarious. His sense of humor and heart makes him a great pair with Pheniox.
8. What is your favorite fictional romantic relationship?

Jack and Hazel from The Darkest Part of the Forest. I loved the relationship that these two have, and how they bonded over time.
9. What character did you think was the strongest?

Liz Taylor from Just Like Elizabeth Taylor. This girl is not strong physically but has strength in courage. For her to admit a situation and just leave is huge. On top of that, she helps other as well as keeping her best friend safe. It took a lot of courage for her to change her environment.
10. Best protagonist?

Picking your favorite main character is like picking your favorite book. I do not have a favorite main character. However to pick one, I would choose Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, and The Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles Crossover. I love how smart she, and isn’t afraid of danger. She gets in there and tries to fix a problem.

I do hope that you have enjoyed this tag. This tag was a bit harder to do, but I enjoyed the challenge. See you next time and happy reading!

The Creatures of the Night

I saw this “The Creatures of the Night” book tag and decided that it would be fun to do. I do hope that you will enjoy this little Halloween treat.  The tag consist of 10 creatures in which you must pick a book that best represents the creature of choice. However, I am adding an additional book to the mix, since I am not sure where to place it. So let’s begin

THE CREATURES OF THE NIGHT BOOK TAG

  1. Vampire – I am going to go with Nora Roberts Circle Trilogy. The trilogy focuses on a group of six unlikely heroes banning together to fight off a vampire army. One of the reasons why I chose this book is that part of the six is a Vampire name Cain who helps the others train in how to defeat others like him.  It is an interesting struggle to see him fighting both the good and bad in him, and trying to choose what is best. The other reason is her strong female villain, Lilith. Even though Lilith is a bit psychotic, she is not afraid to kick some butt.
  2. Werewolf – For this creature, I am choosing the Seasons of the Moon series by S.M.Reine. She wrote a really strong female lead coming to terms in becoming a Werewolf. I also like how she structure the world and the opposing and supporting forces for werewolves. The world is just dynamic and she has characters that you both love and hate. I also loved how everything comes into a full circle.
  3. Zombie -I must admit that I have not read a book about zombies, so for this creature I am will be stretching it a bit by choosing The House of Hades from Rick Riordan Heroes of Olympus Series. I have not read a story where the main character is a zombie, or a lot of books where there are zombies in them (sorry). However, I do love how Nico has the ability to call upon the dead to help his friends fight off monsters in order to save their friends who are coming from Tartarus.  The scene I am talking about is where our heroes get split off and Nico is with Jason, Piper, and Frank fighting off monsters and he calls upon the Dead Roman soldiers to help them in battle.
  4. Ghost – For this creature of the night, I am choosing the book The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade. This is a cute book in which a ghost and a teenager work together to discover their true talent to help their town ghosts pass over into the light. I really enjoy this book, in which you get to meet interesting ghost from all walks of life, and their belief in what can help them cross over. In addition, I enjoyed the character development of both of our main characters in discovering who they are and how they fit into this reality.
  5. Witch/Warlock/Spellcaster – Another Nora Roberts Trilogy! The Three Sisters Island Trilogy.  This Trilogy focuses on the growth and power of these three female witches to fight off a curse that was place on the island over a hundred years ago.  It is nice to see the development of these characters in not only who they are, but who they are with their powers and understanding their strength.
  6. Fairy/Fae – When looking through my past books, the best book that I could think of was Easy Bake Coven by Liz Schulte. This book looks into the world of the supernatural. You are dealing with all forms of the creatures of the night in this book. However, there is a heavy influence of the Fae as well as Witches. This book does establish the politics of the Fae world as well as setting the book up for the following books in the series. It was interesting to see through the perspective of a half Fae, and the powers that they posses.
  7. Demon – This is another creature that I have not read a lot of books on. A good book to read that has a demon is Scary Mary by S.A. Hunter. This book focuses on a girl who has the ability to hear ghosts and ends up dealing with a demon that has posses a house and hurts those who live into his home. This book has the right level of scary with a bit of humor and suspense.
  8. Angel – I have not read any books where it is evident that there are angels. However, I believe that I have a series that is close to a main character being an angel. The Riley Bloom Series by Alyson Noel, is about a 12 year old ghost who goes around helping other ghosts find peace so that they can cross. I do classify an Angle as any being helping to a brighter, richer life.
  9. Alien  – For alien, I am going with Saving Mars by Cidney Swanson. This book is about a female pilot who goes to earth to get her plant rations so that her colony can survive on Mars. It focuses on her adventures on Earth, as well as her coming to terms with decisions and consequences of actions that have been made to save her planet. This is a really great book to read, and I recommend everyone to read it.
  10. Superpowered Human – I am going with Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. I believe that it is a super power to bring characters from books to life. It is also a really cool gift to have. In addition, our main character Meggie not only has that power, but the power to go into books.
  11. An Additional BookThe Beasts and the Maidens by M.E. Timmons. I guess this book could have gone under Witch, but it is also a book about monsters and a curse. The book is about a population men who are born as beasts and the only way for them to become men is if young women fall in love with them. Selene, is a young witch who researches about the quests and makes it her personal mission to help her brothers as well as their friends find the cure. It is an amazingly good book to read. the characters are lovable and realistic, and the format of the story is a mixture of both old and new fairy tale.

I do hope that you enjoyed this little treat as much as I enjoyed participating in it.  I hope that your Halloween will be safe and fun. Happy reading!
