Bout of Books Day 3

I will admit that day three actually went better than day one and two. I actually read a book. Not one of the books that I was planning on reading, but it is still a book, and it was 197 pages long.

The book that I read was Sisters by Raina Telgemeier. I did read the prequel book, Smile, so I knew what to expect and a little bit more about these characters. In reading other people’s reviews about this book, I did realize that it does make a difference in the understanding of the story and the characters.

This particular comic looked on a road trip that Raina took with her mom, sister, and brother to Colorado. Along the road trip, you get to see some past experiences that Raina had about growing up with her sister and her brother.

I really enjoyed this book. I gave this book five out of five stars on Goodreads.
Mostly it was because I was able to relate to this book so much, with the sibling rivalry, and the love that you have for your siblings. There are moments where the book is touching and sad, but I did see the humor that existed throughout the book.

In looking at the artwork. It was the same as Smile. I did enjoy the color pallet that was chosen, and I also liked how the characters were drawn. Even though they were cartoonish, I still felt as though they were realistically drawn, as proportions wise. There were no super model bodies within the pages of this book.

I do recommend this book. I believe that everyone would love and enjoy this book. However, I will add the stipulation that you do need read Smile before you read this book. The way that this book is written and formatted as though you have read the previous book. I do recommend the previous book, Smiles.

That is it. That so far is what I have accomplished for day three.

I will see you tomorrow. Until then, happy reading!

Bout of Books update Day one and two

I know that I am a bit behind, but I am participating in the Bout of Books readathon. Sadly my first day I did not get any reading done. I have really no excuse as to why I did not read. I was not working that day. I had the whole entire day to read. I just did not feel like reading. I will be honest, and admit that I was not feeling well, but that usually does not affect my mood in reading. I am just a little burnt out from last year with all the last minute reading that I did to make sure that I was able to get to my goal of 150 books.

I will also admit here that day two was the same as day one. I did not get any reading done.

As for the challenges for day one. I actually forgot that Bout of Books was happening until I receive the Twitter update. By then, I was out of the house helping my mom shop and get items for this weekend’s event. By the time we got home, it was a little late and all I wanted to do was to get to bed and sleep.

Hopefully, day three will be better. Technically I am not working in the morning so I could read for a few hours. Since I did borrow a lot of books from the library, I do want to read those books first. My plan is to read The Ms. Marvel comics volumes three through five over the next two days and hopefully finish Every Heart A Doorway by Friday.

That is my plan for the rest of Bout of Books. I will have an update tomorrow to let you know how everything is going.

I will see you next time. Until then, happy reading!

Day 2 of the Readathons

Before we start with how my day went, lets play the Bout of Books 15 Game! Today’s game is from Writing my Own Fairy Tale. She created the would you rather tag. Let’s begin!

Would you rather:
Lend books to someone who dog-ears pages or to someone who reads with cheesy Cheetos fingers?

I would go with a person who Dog-ears pages. I just believe that the damage would be less. With Cheesy Cheetos Fingers, you are not only ruining both sides of a piece of paper but the other pages that come into contact, as well as the side of the book, due to the amount of greesy residue.

Would you rather:
Be able to meet one character of your choice or meet one author of your choice?

This one is actually hard. I will go with author, because it is like getting to meet all the characters that they have created. Plus you get to find out why they made some of the decisions that they have made.

Would you rather:
Never be allowed in a book store again or never be allowed in a library again?

I would go with never being allowed in a book store again. I can aways online shop or use a friend/sibling to buy the book in the store if I really need it.

Would you rather:
Have to choose one of your favorite characters to die in their book or have to pick one of your favorite couples to break up in their book?

I would go with breakup. I don’t want to deal with death, nor do I want to be the bringer of death.

Would you rather:
Be required to read Twilight once a year for the rest of your life or The Scarlet Letter once a year for the rest of your life?

I am not sure since I have never read The Scarlet Letter. However, from past experiences I have discovered that serries are easier to digest multiple times, so I am going to go with reading Twilight for a year once a year for the rest of my life.

Alright, let us switch gears and review today.  I do have some more hours left of the day, so some things can change, but right now I can tell you that I did not follow my reading sechedule. I was thinking this morning about how I wanted to read something short and decided to read multiple short books instead of one average size book. I can tell you that I have read 80 pages today, in three books. Yes. I am very proud of that accomplishment. I do feel as though I got so much reading done today.

Time Devoted to Reading

I will be reading at least an hour a day every day for a week.
  • Monday – Completed an hour
  • Tuesday – Completed my hour and then some!

My Goals

  • See above with Bibliothon
  • Participate in many of the challenges as possible.

Total number of books I’ve read:1

In a few minutes I will open up Half Upon A Time and start reading that book. I will be talking to you shortly. Happy Reading!

Updates and Questions

I must apologize for being so late with my posting this week. I got all excited on a new post, and it is taking me longer to complete than expected. This post is not really a tag but can easily turn into one. What I am discovering is that with the 500 books that I have read in my life, I have somehow managed to have a difficulty in completing this one post. However, let us just move on. I do want to let you know about my plans for this week and ask a for a little help in some of my planning.

Let me start with asking for your advice. I will be closing this poll by 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time. I want to give myself some time to write the review.

During Booktube-a-thon, I reread Harper Lee’s book To Kill a Mockingbird before I read Go Set A Watchman. I reread and wrote a short review on To Kill a Mockingbird in 2013 during the first Booktube-a-thon. My question to you is, do you want another review on To Kill a Mockingbird, one with a bit more in-depth than the original review and have it as a back to back with Go Set a Watchman, or do you want me to piggyback/ link the original review on To Kill a Mockingbird and just write a review on Go Set a Watchman? It would be a big help if you help me with that decision-making process because I am not sure what I want to do. I also want to write these reviews before it is too late for me to do a good job on writing the reviews.

Moving on. Here are my plans for this week.

Sunday (Today) – Not only will I have this poll, I will also be doing a Bout of Books update

Monday – Sunday Bout of Books Update and a review on ready Player One and In Real Life

Tuesday – Review on Treasure Island and Witchcraft

Wednesday – Review on The Unwanteds: Island of Silence

Thursday – I might have a Harper Lee review

Friday – Book Tag post. This is the post that is taking me a while to complete.

I do hope that your week will be perfect, I will see you next time and happy reading!
