Day 2 Booktubeathon 2017

How did my day go?…. Let’s us be real, I did calculate that I have three hours of reading time today. However, I did complete the Instagram challenge last night, so that made it 4 hours. How much reading did I get done?… Well, I did complete one challenge, and I read about 114 pages from Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index.

So what challenge did I complete? I did the reading outside challenge. I was under a shady tree with my sunglasses on. Not my preferred reading style, but it had to be done. I did better today than I thought I would. The two books that I completed and read were The Book No One Ever Read and Click, Clack, Quackity-Quack: An Alphabetical Adventure. I gave both books a three out of five stars. Both books just lacked depth. The Book that No One Ever Read, felt like it missed an ending. I would go more into details about it, but I do not want to spoil the book. In the Click, Clack, Quackity-Quack, I just felt it lacked a story line. You had the same characters from the previous stories and books, but it was not as magical or as fun as those other books.

So what are my plans for tomorrow? Well, I got news from my boss and she is giving me the afternoon off. Which is good. Instead of working two hours in the morning I will be working three, which equates to an additional hour of reading. I will also not be picking my sister up, which is giving me more time in reading. So what do I want to do with all that extra time?

If I do not finish Juniper Lemon tonight, I will finish that tomorrow. In addition, I am planning on reading The Dark Prophecy tomorrow. I just got the audio book of it, so that will put me in a head start with reading it and getting those pages read. This is good. I am hoping to at least finish two books tomorrow. If I manage to get all that reading done, and I still have more time, I would also like to start The Girl Who Drank the Moon. I also have that book as an audio book. Which means I can utilize my time a bit better and organize my day to support all the work that I need to get done.

However, I was hoping to get my Instagram challenge for tomorrow done. It was nice getting it done a day early. That gave me an additional hour of reading in today. However, I ended up using that time sorting Legos. I still have a lot to sort, but I can leave that for next week, and get all the reading done. I did the important sets that had to be completed now.

But before I had to go and get ready for work tomorrow, I wanted to show you my entry for Booktubeathon. Today’s challenge was to show the world your favorite classic. I really do like this photo, and I found it a bit more fun and creative than what I did in the last one. I hope that you will enjoy it too.

But before I go, I do want to ask you, if you are participating in Booktubeathon, how are you doing? Have you completed any of the challenges? If so which ones? Are you enjoying any of the books that you have chosen to compete for this readathon?

Until next time. Happy reading!

May Update 2017

I realize that it has been quite a while since I made a post. Part of the reason was that I did not feel like writing. I figured that if I didn’t feel it, that would show through my writing, and I wanted to write a quality post. The other issue that I had was a sprained wrist during the months of February and March. I ended up injuring my right wrist and didn’t realize how much I needed it to complete even the simplists of tasks since I am predominantly right handed. My main focus was trying to get work done, and complete the basic tasks that I needed to complete, like writing out reports and driving.  It really has changed my focus on how much I use this hand.

So even though I was not writing any posts, I was still reading, and I got a lot of reading done, during these pasts few months. I have counted and I believe that I have read a total of 30 books since the last time I made a post. That is not bad since I wanted to read 50 books this year. A lot of the book I have enjoyed, and there are very few that I did not enjoy.

I am planning on making some more posts. I do want to get the Owlcrate, Bookly Box, and Book of the Month posts up. I do realize that I am behind on those posts. I would also like to do a couple of reviews. I also wanted to do a post on my attempt on completing some May Instagram challenges. I will admit that it did not work out this month. but I am hoping to find some more challenges. I decided to just focus on one challenge next month, and add those to this blog. In addition, I would also like to complete some book tags that I would like to participate in.

Hopefully I will get all of this done today, and that I will be able to claim a very successful three day weekend. Until next time, happy reading!

Bout of Books Day 3

I will admit that day three actually went better than day one and two. I actually read a book. Not one of the books that I was planning on reading, but it is still a book, and it was 197 pages long.

The book that I read was Sisters by Raina Telgemeier. I did read the prequel book, Smile, so I knew what to expect and a little bit more about these characters. In reading other people’s reviews about this book, I did realize that it does make a difference in the understanding of the story and the characters.

This particular comic looked on a road trip that Raina took with her mom, sister, and brother to Colorado. Along the road trip, you get to see some past experiences that Raina had about growing up with her sister and her brother.

I really enjoyed this book. I gave this book five out of five stars on Goodreads.
Mostly it was because I was able to relate to this book so much, with the sibling rivalry, and the love that you have for your siblings. There are moments where the book is touching and sad, but I did see the humor that existed throughout the book.

In looking at the artwork. It was the same as Smile. I did enjoy the color pallet that was chosen, and I also liked how the characters were drawn. Even though they were cartoonish, I still felt as though they were realistically drawn, as proportions wise. There were no super model bodies within the pages of this book.

I do recommend this book. I believe that everyone would love and enjoy this book. However, I will add the stipulation that you do need read Smile before you read this book. The way that this book is written and formatted as though you have read the previous book. I do recommend the previous book, Smiles.

That is it. That so far is what I have accomplished for day three.

I will see you tomorrow. Until then, happy reading!

Bout of Books update Day one and two

I know that I am a bit behind, but I am participating in the Bout of Books readathon. Sadly my first day I did not get any reading done. I have really no excuse as to why I did not read. I was not working that day. I had the whole entire day to read. I just did not feel like reading. I will be honest, and admit that I was not feeling well, but that usually does not affect my mood in reading. I am just a little burnt out from last year with all the last minute reading that I did to make sure that I was able to get to my goal of 150 books.

I will also admit here that day two was the same as day one. I did not get any reading done.

As for the challenges for day one. I actually forgot that Bout of Books was happening until I receive the Twitter update. By then, I was out of the house helping my mom shop and get items for this weekend’s event. By the time we got home, it was a little late and all I wanted to do was to get to bed and sleep.

Hopefully, day three will be better. Technically I am not working in the morning so I could read for a few hours. Since I did borrow a lot of books from the library, I do want to read those books first. My plan is to read The Ms. Marvel comics volumes three through five over the next two days and hopefully finish Every Heart A Doorway by Friday.

That is my plan for the rest of Bout of Books. I will have an update tomorrow to let you know how everything is going.

I will see you next time. Until then, happy reading!

Gobble-up Books Readathon Update

To tell you the truth, I am not doing to0 well on this readathon. For those of you are participating, I am sorry. The first two days have been crazy. Wednesday was a bit crazy. In the beginning, I forgot, and my the time I remember it was too late. I was trying to balance work, NaNoWriMo, and celebrating Thanksgiving with my dad. Looking back I could have easily done some sprints inthe afternoon, but I just got caught up in writing that I actually forgot to set up some sprint times. As for Thursday, just Thanksgiving took over. It was a good thing that I was planning on not making thanksgiving a big day, but I never planned on just ignoring it.  I was not planning on spending the whole day in the kitchen making Thanksgiving dinner, that in and of itself threw me off.

I do hope that yesterday was better. I tried to fit in more reading sprints and make it a bit more fun. Looking back, it might not have been what I have planned, but it did work out a lot better than I expected. And today, I am making some adjustments to what I have learned from yesterday. Though I will admit that the times will slightly change.

I know that I claimed that the reading sprints for today will be 8AM, 12PM, 3PM, 6PM, and 9PM. I accidently overslept today and it threw off everything. So the new times are 1PM for 10 minutes. 4PM for 30 minutes, and 7PM for 30 minutes. I will also have another sprint at 7:45PM for 15 minutes. Depending on how my headache is doing, I might add another one around 9 or 10PM. My sister supposes to be doing a parade around 5PM. I will see what will need to be done. I might end up going to the parade, or I might end up watching my grandma. I am not sure what we are going to do. I do have plans on still being able to host the sprints no matter what happens.

As for reading. I haven’t done terribly. Out of the four challenges, I did complete two. I finished a DNF book and I was able to finish a book under 200 pages yesterday. The is good. The book that I started with this readathon, is not really hooking me. I feel a little left out because the book is so hyped up that I am sitting here wondering what am I missing? The books that I did do yesterday was Junie B., First Grade Cheater Pants and I finished The Invention of Hugo Cabret. I still have two more books to go and two more days left of this readathon.

As for those of you who are participating. How is the readathon working out for you? How many books have you finished? Are you having fun?

Well, I have to go. In about 10 minutes we will have another reading sprint on both Facebook and Twitter. See you there and happy reading!

Bout of Books – Day 6

Okay. I know that I did a review for day six, but I still had plans to continue reading that day. I realize now that I should have waited until today to talk about yesterday, but there is nothing that I can do about that now.

Day six was not that bad. I spent most of the day either working or helping my mom and dad. It was not until 4:00 in the afternoon was I able to start reading. When I wrote about the previous days, I was still thinking about reading more of Thirteen, and I did. More than the 20 pages that I planned. I believe I read about 40 to 50 pages. The book is getting to be really good and intense. In one instance I am having a hard time putting to down, and in another, I am having a hard time continuing because of everything that is happening.

In the end, I really thought that my reading went very well for the day. I will talk to you tomorrow with my wrap-up with this readathon. See you next time. Happy reading!

Bout of Books Day 4, 5, & 6

Alright, the last few days have been hectic. On Thursday my Grandma got sent to the hospital via ambulance due to a high fever. She is doing fine now, but we have been given the notice that she has about two more months to live. That news has not set in yet, due to the fact that I have been trying to balance taking care of my sister, my mom, and helping my mom around the house.

In all that has happened, Thursday was a good day for reading. I was able to finish P.S. I Like You, and I also read It’s Halloween. I have then proceeded to start and continue to read Thirteen on Friday. I am only 74 pages into the book. It is not an easy read. It is definitely an intense thriller book. I am not sure how to word it, but it is not something that you can breeze through.

In the process of the past few days, I was not able to participate in any of the challenges. Thursday’s challenge was to create a tabloid headline with a book that you are currently reading or a book that you have read. At the time I was not sure what I was going to say or which book I was going to pick, and I still don’t know what to do with this challenge. Everything that I came up with sounds dumb. The best one that I can come up with is :”Thirteen-year-old is in danger of death by  crazy millennium cult!”

Friday’s challenge was fun, and I did have a response to it but was not able to get to a computer at all that day. The challenge was to connect a book with a song. Which is interesting because I sometimes naturally do that. For example Face the Fire, the song that I have stuck in my head for it is Lady Gaga’s Judas. Somehow I was reading that book and listening to the Just Born This Way album and the song seemed to fit so much that I am not able to let it go. Judas does fit this song perfectly if you have read this book.

So those have been my last few days. I am hoping to get another 20 pages done with Thirteen before the end of tonight. Then make some more posts for this week. See you next time, and happy reading.
