Day 2 Booktubeathon 2017

How did my day go?…. Let’s us be real, I did calculate that I have three hours of reading time today. However, I did complete the Instagram challenge last night, so that made it 4 hours. How much reading did I get done?… Well, I did complete one challenge, and I read about 114 pages from Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index.

So what challenge did I complete? I did the reading outside challenge. I was under a shady tree with my sunglasses on. Not my preferred reading style, but it had to be done. I did better today than I thought I would. The two books that I completed and read were The Book No One Ever Read and Click, Clack, Quackity-Quack: An Alphabetical Adventure. I gave both books a three out of five stars. Both books just lacked depth. The Book that No One Ever Read, felt like it missed an ending. I would go more into details about it, but I do not want to spoil the book. In the Click, Clack, Quackity-Quack, I just felt it lacked a story line. You had the same characters from the previous stories and books, but it was not as magical or as fun as those other books.

So what are my plans for tomorrow? Well, I got news from my boss and she is giving me the afternoon off. Which is good. Instead of working two hours in the morning I will be working three, which equates to an additional hour of reading. I will also not be picking my sister up, which is giving me more time in reading. So what do I want to do with all that extra time?

If I do not finish Juniper Lemon tonight, I will finish that tomorrow. In addition, I am planning on reading The Dark Prophecy tomorrow. I just got the audio book of it, so that will put me in a head start with reading it and getting those pages read. This is good. I am hoping to at least finish two books tomorrow. If I manage to get all that reading done, and I still have more time, I would also like to start The Girl Who Drank the Moon. I also have that book as an audio book. Which means I can utilize my time a bit better and organize my day to support all the work that I need to get done.

However, I was hoping to get my Instagram challenge for tomorrow done. It was nice getting it done a day early. That gave me an additional hour of reading in today. However, I ended up using that time sorting Legos. I still have a lot to sort, but I can leave that for next week, and get all the reading done. I did the important sets that had to be completed now.

But before I had to go and get ready for work tomorrow, I wanted to show you my entry for Booktubeathon. Today’s challenge was to show the world your favorite classic. I really do like this photo, and I found it a bit more fun and creative than what I did in the last one. I hope that you will enjoy it too.

But before I go, I do want to ask you, if you are participating in Booktubeathon, how are you doing? Have you completed any of the challenges? If so which ones? Are you enjoying any of the books that you have chosen to compete for this readathon?

Until next time. Happy reading!

Bout of Books 17 – Day 2

Okay… I know what you are thinking. How much reading did I get done today?

Well… I found out that I have made it to chapter 8 before the big reading slump took place for An Ember in the Ashes. I did get through Saga Volume 4 and hopefully, I will get some more reading for P.S. I Like you before bed. As far as the reading count goes, I got through 1 graphic novel and 100 pages.

So what is my plan for tomorrow? Well, I need to finish volume five of Saga, and at least get started on An Ember in the Ashes. I am not sure how that is going to work out, since tomorrow is my really crazy day.

Now let’s move onto the challenge. This sounds easy, but it was a bit challenging and fun. A lot of the books and pages I choose had tons of articles. If you need examples of the different types of articles click on the link to help you out.

The Nickster hosted at Bout of Books — Mix ‘n Match (instructions right below!)

Pick out 10-15 books from your shelf, from your local library, or from a local bookstore. They can be any genre, any language, and any length. In each book, flip to a random page and pick the 1st word (articles such as “the”, “and”, “an”, “or”, etc. don’t count as the 1st word). Use all these 1st words to try to create an actual sentence. If the books are in different languages, feel free to translate them to all one language or leave them as they are! also, you can add in some articles, such as “the”, “and”, “an”, “or”, etc., if you want to make the sentence flow better.

I grabbed 13 books. Here are my books and the words that I grabbed.

  1. An Ember in the Ashes, we (127)
  2. P.S. I Like You, I (247)
  3. City of Bone, one (225)
  4. The Secret Garden, if (127)
  5. Uprooted, light (179)
  6. Stars Above, now (209)
  7. Unwanteds, eliminators (236)
  8. Wicked Lovely, sisters (177)
  9. Counting By 7’s, young (247)
  10. Half Upon A Time, many (201)
  11. This is Where it Ends, would (97)
  12. Dumplin, work (243)
  13. Hamlet, doubt (57)

Here is my sentence

If we light now, the young eliminator sisters would work many doubt.

Sadly, I cannot tell you what it means, but it does sound interesting. I can tell you how much this challenge has highlighted the use of articles that we use everyday in the English Language.

I do hope that you enjoyed this little update. See you soon, and happy reading!

Booktubeathon Day 2

Alright, I did not get as much reading as I planned to get done today, but what I got done I am proud of. Today, I mainly focused on listening to More Than This by Patrick Ness. I ended up reading 20 chapters from this book. I would have read more if it were not for the fact that the audible account from my iPod to my iPhone don’t link up at the same location. The iPhone is always behind a few chapters.

I also finished another book after my post. I finished the first book in the Spiderwick Chronicles. Thus completing two challenges in one day. Those two challenges are to read a book older than me and to read a book after sunset. I will leave a review of that book down below.

I do want to talk about my plans for tomorrow. I am going to change my schedule a little bit. Originally I had planned on reading More Than This and finishing the book tomorrow. However, I am really enjoying it as an audio and I want to continue my audible experience. So I have decided to bring The Hidden Oracle up a day. I do not know what I was thinking, I highly doubt that I can start and finish a book in three hours, especially with a character that I have very little empathy with. I am also planning on reading the third Spiderwick book tomorrow.

After this post I am planning on starting and finishing the second book in the Spiderwick Chronicles.

Those are my plans. Now onto the review.

The Spiderwick Chronicles: The Feild Guide by tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black.

Summary: This book is about three siblings experiencing their first encounter with the Fae and mystical folk in their new home while finding a mysterious book.

Rating: I gave this book four out of five stars on Goodreads. If I was, to be honest, I would have given the book 3.5 stars out of five.

Pros: I do have a couple of things that I liked about this book. The first is that this is a good introduction to a series. It does give you a chance to get to know the characters and a bit about their surroundings. In addition, I can see why kids loved this series. The characters are relatable and the reading is pretty easy. The other reason why I like this book was its shortness. I know that this stems from reading this book for the Booktubeathon and trying to complete one of the challenges. However, I did enjoy that the book was concise and to the point.

Cons: There are a couple of problems that I had with the book. One of them was the lack of plot and growth. Yes the siblings getting together can be counted as both, but each character did not grow. I still felt as though I was asking the book “What else?” “What is the bigger plot?” I also did not like the lack of background. As relatable as the characters are, I would still like to know what makes them tick.

Recommendation: I am not sure if I would recommend this book. I can see why it is a popular book with upper elementary age children, but it did not entice me. I do want to continue on with the series to see how the books progress.

I do hope that you enjoyed this post. I might see you tomorrow. We will see with my crazy schedule. Other than that, have fun and happy reading!

Day 2 of the Readathons

Before we start with how my day went, lets play the Bout of Books 15 Game! Today’s game is from Writing my Own Fairy Tale. She created the would you rather tag. Let’s begin!

Would you rather:
Lend books to someone who dog-ears pages or to someone who reads with cheesy Cheetos fingers?

I would go with a person who Dog-ears pages. I just believe that the damage would be less. With Cheesy Cheetos Fingers, you are not only ruining both sides of a piece of paper but the other pages that come into contact, as well as the side of the book, due to the amount of greesy residue.

Would you rather:
Be able to meet one character of your choice or meet one author of your choice?

This one is actually hard. I will go with author, because it is like getting to meet all the characters that they have created. Plus you get to find out why they made some of the decisions that they have made.

Would you rather:
Never be allowed in a book store again or never be allowed in a library again?

I would go with never being allowed in a book store again. I can aways online shop or use a friend/sibling to buy the book in the store if I really need it.

Would you rather:
Have to choose one of your favorite characters to die in their book or have to pick one of your favorite couples to break up in their book?

I would go with breakup. I don’t want to deal with death, nor do I want to be the bringer of death.

Would you rather:
Be required to read Twilight once a year for the rest of your life or The Scarlet Letter once a year for the rest of your life?

I am not sure since I have never read The Scarlet Letter. However, from past experiences I have discovered that serries are easier to digest multiple times, so I am going to go with reading Twilight for a year once a year for the rest of my life.

Alright, let us switch gears and review today.  I do have some more hours left of the day, so some things can change, but right now I can tell you that I did not follow my reading sechedule. I was thinking this morning about how I wanted to read something short and decided to read multiple short books instead of one average size book. I can tell you that I have read 80 pages today, in three books. Yes. I am very proud of that accomplishment. I do feel as though I got so much reading done today.

Time Devoted to Reading

I will be reading at least an hour a day every day for a week.
  • Monday – Completed an hour
  • Tuesday – Completed my hour and then some!

My Goals

  • See above with Bibliothon
  • Participate in many of the challenges as possible.

Number of books I’ve read today: 1
Total number of books I’ve read:1
Books: 1

Number of books I’ve read today: 3
Total number of books I’ve read:4
Books: 4 (?)

In a few minutes I will open up Half Upon A Time and start reading that book. I will be talking to you shortly. Happy Reading!

Day one and most of Day 2 of Holiday Booktubeathon

Day one was a little slow for me. I did finish one book. I finished The Frist Dragon by James A. Owen. Then I started Ungifted. However, due to the fact that I was celebrating Christmas with my dad, I spent most of the day with family. I only got 60 pages read with Ungifted. I believed that if I focused a bit more I would have gotten farther, but I needed that break between the two books.

Day two was a bit better. I still have some more reading to do, but I did finish Ungifted. I am debating which of the two books I want to pick up and read.

Other than reading, I still have some planning to do for tomorrow’s Lego class. In addition, I am going to a party in a half hour. I am not sure if I have any more time for reading. Let me show you all the challenges that I have completed in the past two days.

  1. Read a book with white on the cover
  2. Read a follow-up to something that I enjoyed this year
  3. Read a gift
  4. Read 3 books

With the challenges set up, here are a list of books that I am planning on reading during the Holiday Booktubeathon 2015.

  1. The First Dragon
by James A. Owen. This book does not really fit any of the challenges. It does fit my TBR jar challenge and I do want to finish the book. I am about half way through.
  2. Ungifted by Gordon Karman. This covers that “Read a follow-up to something that I enjoyed this year.” Lately, I have been in a kick of kids doing some great stuff. This quirky book seems to fit right into what I feel like reading. In addition, I also bought this book for myself as a gift.
  3. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. This book takes care of two of the challenges. The version of the book that I have is white with the magician going between the red and gray London. I also got this book as a Christmas present to me.
  4. Ink and Bone by Rachel Cain. I borrowed this book from the library and it is due in a few days. I have gotten 10 pages done. It is time to start reading.
