The Reading Quest Readathon

I am not sure if this is a reading challenge or a readathon, but this looks like so much fun, that I had to sign-up. The challenge came from Aentee from Read at Midnight. She actually called it The Reading Quest. Before I begin, I also want to CW of Read, Think, Ponder for the artwork. That is who design the board and the characters.

The challenge starts on Sunday, August 13th and ends on Sunday, September 10, at midnight, in your area. The challenge looks simple. You pick a character and you follow the purple path on the Bingo board. That is the main quest. The blue tiles are the side quests that you can follow. There are even points that you can achieve while you participate. I have a left a link up above (the second link) so you can check out all of the rules and the game board itself.

I have chosen to become a Mage, and I will follow the path starting on the bottom left with the Mage up until I reach the knight.

Before I begin, I must note that when making my TBR there were a lot of questions, and most of them were answered when I scrolled down. However, some of these questions were focusing on books that I have chosen for this readathon. I will star those quests in question. The quests for the Mages, and the books that I have chosen are…

  1. Read a book with a one-word title – I have chosen Carival by Stephanie Garber. I am looking forward to reading this book. I have owned this book for quite some time.
  2. Read a book that contains magic –  I am going with The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill. This one I am sure will count.
  3. Read a book based on mythology – I am a bit proud of my book choice. I feel a bit clever and ingenious with this book choice. I am going to be reading The Star Theif by Lindsey Becker. This book is about one girl’s adventure with the mythical constellations.
  4. Read a book set in a different world – I have chosen to read Cress by Marissa Meyers.
  5. Read the first book in a series – This was a bit difficult to find. I had to scour my shelves to find a book that would work. I tend to start series, not finish them. Alas, I was able to find one book. The book that I have chosen is Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins.

I have even grabbed some book that will work in some of the side quests. Those side quests and book are…

  1. Expansion: read a companion novel or a short story* – Originally I read the box as to read a second book or a companion novel and I was celebrating because that meant that I could read Serafina and the Twisted Staff by Robert Beatty. Then upon further inspection, thanks to this blog post I realize that it was short story or companion novel. If I can magically fit this in I would love to finish my serial box series. There is one more book that I have left with Remade. I am hoping that I can get to the last book which is The End of the Beginning.
  2. Time Warp: read a book set in either the past or the future – I have chosen to read The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee. I have heard a lot of great things about this book and I am really looking forward to reading it.
  3. Potions: read a book concocted by 2 or more authors* – I am not sure if I am cheating, but I proud of myself for thinking of this. I want to read Because You Love to Hate Me edited by Amerlle. It is 13 short stories written by 13 different authors. I believe that it should count.
  4. Open world: read whatever you want – I am hoping to get to You’re Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner. In looking at the book, I do not think that this book will fit in any of the boxes. I am not sure, but I am really looking forward to getting to this book. Plus, it is one of my short ones.
  5. Respawn: read a book that you DNF – I am hoping that I can finish Twice Upon a Time by James Riley. I have started this book, but DNF it because I was caught in a minor reading slump in the beginning of the year. I did enjoy the book, and I am hoping to finish it within this reading challenge/ readathon.

I know that this is a lot, and I am not sure if I will make through to all of these books. Though I am hoping. In the following week, I will come up with a game plan that might work out, to help me stay on track. For now, this will be my TBR. If there are any changes, I will let you know.

I do hope that you will join me in this epic quest. Until next time. Happy reading!

Day 3 Booktubeathon 2017

With all the extra time I had in reading, you would think that I got a lot of reading done. Sadly, I did not But I did get one book done and at least I did start an audio book for The Dark Prophecy this morning, so that is in the plus column.  In all, I finished Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index and got about 90 pages into The Dark Prophecy.

So far I have completed three out of the eight challenges. I just finished reading the group book and I read a book with a person on the cover. So I am excited for slowly finishing these challenges and getting all my books read. If possible, I am hoping to get The Dark Prophecy finished by tomorrow.

I am not sure if that is going to work. I am losing an hour of reading, with the extra hour that is going into my camp, but I also decided to not participate in tomorrows challenge. I technical have a photo and an outfit that I could use for the challenge, but I do not want my identity known on my blog or Instagram account. So that might give me an extra hour. I am not sure. We will see how much reading I will complete in the day. I still want to post something crafty and fun for tomorrow on my Instagram account.

Though today’s challenge was a bit hard. We were to take a reflective image of our current read. I was happy with my work, but with all the other images that I saw for the challenge, I am not surprised that I lost. It was not as good as some of those other images. I do encourage you to check them out. Look it under the #btatreflect. I will place the image that I submitted down below.

But for now, I want to talk about my game plan for tomorrow. I am planning on immersing myself in the world of The Dark Prophecy. I do have the audio book, so I am planning on utilizing that audio book to help me get some more reading time. Hopefully, I will be able to get a few chapters done while I am getting ready for work. I am not sure about hearing the book and driving to work. Lately, I have been stuck on the same song for the past few days and I have not been getting any reading done in the car. My realistic goal is to get 3/4 of the way through the book. I only want 100 or so pages left to finish on Friday. If by some miracle I finish this book tomorrow, I do have The Girl Who Drank the Moon and Story Thieves. I might also take in 13 chairs. I am due for a short quick read. I am starting to feel that need for a quick pick me up.

So enough about me, I want to know about you. If you are participating, how is your adventuring going? Did you get a lot of books read? Have you enjoyed all the books that you have read so far? What challenges have you completed? Are you having fun?

I do hope that you are having fun and that you are enjoying all of your adventures. I will talk to you on Friday. Until then, happy reading!

Day 2 Booktubeathon 2017

How did my day go?…. Let’s us be real, I did calculate that I have three hours of reading time today. However, I did complete the Instagram challenge last night, so that made it 4 hours. How much reading did I get done?… Well, I did complete one challenge, and I read about 114 pages from Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index.

So what challenge did I complete? I did the reading outside challenge. I was under a shady tree with my sunglasses on. Not my preferred reading style, but it had to be done. I did better today than I thought I would. The two books that I completed and read were The Book No One Ever Read and Click, Clack, Quackity-Quack: An Alphabetical Adventure. I gave both books a three out of five stars. Both books just lacked depth. The Book that No One Ever Read, felt like it missed an ending. I would go more into details about it, but I do not want to spoil the book. In the Click, Clack, Quackity-Quack, I just felt it lacked a story line. You had the same characters from the previous stories and books, but it was not as magical or as fun as those other books.

So what are my plans for tomorrow? Well, I got news from my boss and she is giving me the afternoon off. Which is good. Instead of working two hours in the morning I will be working three, which equates to an additional hour of reading. I will also not be picking my sister up, which is giving me more time in reading. So what do I want to do with all that extra time?

If I do not finish Juniper Lemon tonight, I will finish that tomorrow. In addition, I am planning on reading The Dark Prophecy tomorrow. I just got the audio book of it, so that will put me in a head start with reading it and getting those pages read. This is good. I am hoping to at least finish two books tomorrow. If I manage to get all that reading done, and I still have more time, I would also like to start The Girl Who Drank the Moon. I also have that book as an audio book. Which means I can utilize my time a bit better and organize my day to support all the work that I need to get done.

However, I was hoping to get my Instagram challenge for tomorrow done. It was nice getting it done a day early. That gave me an additional hour of reading in today. However, I ended up using that time sorting Legos. I still have a lot to sort, but I can leave that for next week, and get all the reading done. I did the important sets that had to be completed now.

But before I had to go and get ready for work tomorrow, I wanted to show you my entry for Booktubeathon. Today’s challenge was to show the world your favorite classic. I really do like this photo, and I found it a bit more fun and creative than what I did in the last one. I hope that you will enjoy it too.

IMG_2596[1]

But before I go, I do want to ask you, if you are participating in Booktubeathon, how are you doing? Have you completed any of the challenges? If so which ones? Are you enjoying any of the books that you have chosen to compete for this readathon?

Until next time. Happy reading!

Day 1 of Booktubeathon 2017

Alright… To tell you the truth the first day did not go as planned. I accidentally slept in and when I tried to listen to the book I was reading last night, I discovered I did not have the internet, which meant that I could not download the book onto my iPod. Which meant I was behind on my reading. I was hoping to finish Serafina and the Black Cloak on my way to work and start Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index. I was even hoping to be almost done with that book today.

Sadly, that did not happen. I spent 30 minutes uploading pictures of my camp for work, ate lunch, then I actually spent the hour working on my Instagram challenge. I then spent about an hour reading, in which I was able to finish Serafina and the Black Cloak and start Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index. About an hour later, I decided that I should get a bit more work done, so I decided to sort Lego. I did not continue reading or switched books at that time.

However, I can claim that I did finish one book (about 30 pages) and read about 94 pages in another. That is not bad. Not what I expected, but it was still good, and I still got some reading done.

In addition, my picture for the first challenge did not go as planned. The first Instagram challenge was to finish a book cover. I can tell you that I was not happy with it when I posted it, but I was running out of time, and I wanted to get back to reading. To stay on top of my schedule that I had set up for myself. I must say that I am grateful for all the likes. It made me realize that I did do a good job on the challenge. I was just being hard on myself. I know that it is not perfect, but it is decent and it does look like it can go with the rest of the book.

img_25861.jpg

So what are my plans for tomorrow? I would like to finish Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index.  I can easily do that while I am eating lunch and doing the Instagram challenge if I can get ahold of the audio book. Do the reading the books outside challenge. That can be completed after work and before I pick my sister up. I am also hoping to start either The Girl who Drank the Moon or The Dark Prophecy. I am hoping to get a bit more reading in tomorrow. This is funny since I have less time to read.

So wish me the best luck in my endeavors. I am also hoping the very best for yours.

If you are participating in this readathon let me know down below. How are you doing? Have you completed any challenges yet? And what is your game plan for tomorrow?

Until tomorrow. Happy reading!

Now it is off for those of us to save Ariel and Kristina from the Demon that has kidnapped them both on Twitter.

Booktubeathon 2017

I find this very fitting that WordPress just informed me that it is my four year anniversary. Why? The reason why I started this blog was to document my experience with booktubeathon back in 2013. I can honestly say that I am excited to not only participate in Booktubeathon this year but to be back on my blog. A lot has happened and there is a lot of catching up to do, but today I just want to focus on the challenges and the fun that I will experience for booktubeathon.

In case you want to know, Booktubeathon is a week long readathon hosted by Ariel Bissett. It is a week where booktube gets together to have fun, read, and to complete some challenges, not just reading, but with videos and Instagram.

This year reading challenges are…

  1. Read a book with a person on the cover
  2. Read a hyped book
  3. Finish a book in one day
  4. Read about a character different from you
  5. Read a book outside
  6. Read a book you bought because of the cover
  7. Read 7 books
  8. Read the group book Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel

I do not have the video and the Instagram challenges. Those are usually given the day of that given challenge.

This event is fun and it is happening from Monday, July 24th to Sunday, July 30th.  It starts at midnight in your area, and end at midnight in your area. It is not like some of other readathons, like Dewey’s 24-hour readathon, where everyone starts at the same time. It is one of my favorite experiences is seeing all the different times that these readathons start and end. I really do recommend for everyone to try it out.

I am really excited to share with you all the books that I am planning on reading. However, I must admit that I got a little too crazy. I just saw that the readathon was coming, watched the reading challenges video and started grabbing books off my shelf. In short, I have currently 17 books (18 if I do not finish my current read) that will fit the challenges, and barely any time to read any of them.  I was looking at times for reading, and not doing video or Instagram challenges, and my worst days this week is on Tuesday and Thursday where I have 3.5 hours of reading time. If I take an hour to do the Instagram challenge, I would be left with 2.5 hours of reading. However, this year I would like to try to do at least one to two video challenges as well. I will see. I really want to read more than anything.

I figure that the best thing to do is to share with you all the books that I picked in excited glee.  Show you the top picks that I wanted to read by the end of this week. I figure if I do not read all the books that I wanted to, for what ever reason, I have at least several options to choose from to help me succeed with this readathon.

Here are all of the books that I grabbed while I was preparing for this year’s Booktubeathon.

  1. Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel
  2. Click Clack Quackity Quack By Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin
  3. The Book No One Ever Read by Cornelia Funke
  4. The Trails of Apollo: The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan
  5. Almost Home by Nora Raleigh Baskin
  6. Thirteen Chairs by Dave Shelton
  7. A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespear
  8. New World Rising by Jennifer Wilson
  9. Mosquito Land by David Arnold
  10. Story Thieves by James Riley
  11. Beauty and the Beast: Lost in a Book by Jennifer Donnelly
  12. The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
  13. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling
  14. Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy
  15. The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas
  16. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
  17. A Million Junes by Emily Henry
  18. Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty – The book that I am currently reading and hoping to finish before the readathon tomorrow.

Now I thought of the many ways to show you how I could easily succeed these challenges. It was the one thing that made me almost make a video of my TBR. However, I figured out how I can successfully make that TBR.  Are you ready? I hope so…

  1. Read a book with a person on the cover

2. Read a hyped book

3. Finish a book in one day – Here are all of the books that I could finish in a day

4. Read about a character different from you

5. Read a book outside – So I have been having some health problems for a while and one of the issues that I have is light sensitivity. With the fear of the light sensitivity, I have decided to read some short books. I do feel like I am cheating a bit, so I choose two books for this challenge.

6. Read a book you bought because of the cover – I am starting to realize that my buying and book choosing habits. I really need to stop and think things through.

7. Read 7 books -I know that these are more than seven books, but these books are my top choices that I want to read throughout the week. I do want to point out that I did not put these books in the order of the challenges or how I want to read them. I just wanted to list books that I really want to read for the readathon.

8. Read the group book Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel

IMG_2539

That, my dear friends, is my TBR for the booktubeathon. I do hope that I will be able to get through as many books as possible this coming week. I will post my schedule for the coming week down below. I just did not have enough time to figure out which books I want to read at which time. I might just end up filling in the calendar and letting you know what I have been reading throughout the week with my update.

Without futher ado, we must begin, since the first sprint is going to happen any minute.

Until next time… Happy reading!

May Update 2017

I realize that it has been quite a while since I made a post. Part of the reason was that I did not feel like writing. I figured that if I didn’t feel it, that would show through my writing, and I wanted to write a quality post. The other issue that I had was a sprained wrist during the months of February and March. I ended up injuring my right wrist and didn’t realize how much I needed it to complete even the simplists of tasks since I am predominantly right handed. My main focus was trying to get work done, and complete the basic tasks that I needed to complete, like writing out reports and driving.  It really has changed my focus on how much I use this hand.

So even though I was not writing any posts, I was still reading, and I got a lot of reading done, during these pasts few months. I have counted and I believe that I have read a total of 30 books since the last time I made a post. That is not bad since I wanted to read 50 books this year. A lot of the book I have enjoyed, and there are very few that I did not enjoy.

I am planning on making some more posts. I do want to get the Owlcrate, Bookly Box, and Book of the Month posts up. I do realize that I am behind on those posts. I would also like to do a couple of reviews. I also wanted to do a post on my attempt on completing some May Instagram challenges. I will admit that it did not work out this month. but I am hoping to find some more challenges. I decided to just focus on one challenge next month, and add those to this blog. In addition, I would also like to complete some book tags that I would like to participate in.

Hopefully I will get all of this done today, and that I will be able to claim a very successful three day weekend. Until next time, happy reading!

Last day for Bout of Books

Alright. I had every intention to make a daily update, but that did not happen. My schedule was really weird this week, but it was lighter than most weeks. This coming week is insane. I am working from 7:30 in the morning to 6:30 at night. I am just sitting here looking at my schedule going, well my break was nice while it lasted.

In the course of the week, I did get to read two books. In reality, I did read two episodes of the serial book that I am reading. I did get to read part of a comic, and some more from another book (Every Heart A Door).

In challenge wise, I was able to do most of the challenges. It was not that bad. I ended up doing day’s one challenge on day one without even realizing it, and day 2 focus on 2017 goals. The only challenge that I did not participate in was the poetry spine challenge. I just did not want to reorganize my shelves after that challenge. As it stands, I still have to clean up from the Winter Booktubeathon challenges. Four out of five challenges completed, not bad. I am really happy with the success with some of these challenges.

In the end, considering how my week went last week, I am really glad about how everything turned out. I know that I would normally talk about my next steps, but today, I just want to bask in the glory of actually trying and feeling good about what I have accomplished. I really do want to enjoy more out of life, and taking a step back and doing something for the fun of it, not for the success is a huge deal. Believe it or not, it was really hard to do. I never realize how much my happiness and my self-worth was tied to being successful and getting everything done and having it be perfect. It was nice to hold myself back and to tell myself that I had to enjoy what I am doing, I have to be happy. that was a huge learning experience for me.

I will see you this weekend. Until then, happy reading!
