First week of the Reading Quest

Let me be honest here. My first week did not go all that well. I thought that if I started with a quick middle grade I would be off to a great start. Sadly I am not. I am only a 152 pages into The Star Theif. Even though the book has a lot of action, I feel as though this book is a bit slow. We are finally able to see some of the plot that is going to drive this book forward.

I am hoping that next week I can stop playing around with games and movies on my iPhone, and actually get some reading done. I am hoping to be done with this book by Wednesday. I will let you know on Twitter and Facebook how that is going. I also bought some of my TBR for this challenge as audio books. I am hoping to start The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue tomorrow. I have looked at how long the audio book is, and it is 10 hours and 47 minutes long. I spend about an hour a day in my car driving to and from work. It would take me about 11 days to finish this book. Even if I do speed up the reading, I will still end up finishing this book by next week. I am looking forward to this book, I have heard so many great things about this book. I am also hoping that I will start Rebel Belle by Wednesday and finish it by Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

I am not sure if I will stick to this plan. I realize that I could get through The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue faster if I read the book during my free time at work, and just change the placement of the audio book while I am driving. However, my goal is to complete two books by the end of this week, and have a third book half way done. With this bad start, I am just hoping that I will finish my main quest.

I am also hoping that by participating in Bout of Books 20, I will be inspired to read more and get more than what I have planned for this week. I do not think that I will be participating in a lot of the challenges this week, just because I do want to focus more on reading. If you are interested, click on the link. You can sign up for Bout of Books 20 all through tomorrow. It is a lot of fun, and it will start on Midnight in your area.

So that is my update for the reading Quest Challenge. I am sorry that my writing was a bit all over the place. I have been a bit distracted. Part of it is the solar eclipse that is going to happen tomorrow. I will sadly not get the chance to see totality, but I will get a partial and I am hoping that I will get to see at least a little bit of it. I do live in the bay area and sadly the weather is going to be foggy around that time. I am hoping to get to see the tail end of it. I have also started school/work and there is a need to balance out everything, and I was not as prepared as I thought I would be. I am hoping that now that everything is starting to settle, I will be able to get back into the groove of work, work, work, read!

I do hope that you did enjoy the update. If you are participating in either the Reading Quest or Bout of Books let me know down below. How are you doing? What books are you planning on reading? What books have you completed, as well as the challenges for the Reading Quest? In addition, are you going to see the eclipse tomorrow? Will it be partial, full, or are you lucky enough to experience totality? Please let me know your experience down below. It is my dream to experience totality.

In addition, are you going to see the eclipse tomorrow? Will it be partial, full, or are you lucky enough to experience totality? Please let me know your experience down below. It is my dream to experience totality. I just was not able to take the time off due to responsibilities.

As always, I wish everyone a wonderful and safe night. May you enjoy all your adventures.

Happy Reading!

From, Super Bookworm

Last day for Bout of Books

Alright. I had every intention to make a daily update, but that did not happen. My schedule was really weird this week, but it was lighter than most weeks. This coming week is insane. I am working from 7:30 in the morning to 6:30 at night. I am just sitting here looking at my schedule going, well my break was nice while it lasted.

In the course of the week, I did get to read two books. In reality, I did read two episodes of the serial book that I am reading. I did get to read part of a comic, and some more from another book (Every Heart A Door).

In challenge wise, I was able to do most of the challenges. It was not that bad. I ended up doing day’s one challenge on day one without even realizing it, and day 2 focus on 2017 goals. The only challenge that I did not participate in was the poetry spine challenge. I just did not want to reorganize my shelves after that challenge. As it stands, I still have to clean up from the Winter Booktubeathon challenges. Four out of five challenges completed, not bad. I am really happy with the success with some of these challenges.

In the end, considering how my week went last week, I am really glad about how everything turned out. I know that I would normally talk about my next steps, but today, I just want to bask in the glory of actually trying and feeling good about what I have accomplished. I really do want to enjoy more out of life, and taking a step back and doing something for the fun of it, not for the success is a huge deal. Believe it or not, it was really hard to do. I never realize how much my happiness and my self-worth was tied to being successful and getting everything done and having it be perfect. It was nice to hold myself back and to tell myself that I had to enjoy what I am doing, I have to be happy. that was a huge learning experience for me.

I will see you this weekend. Until then, happy reading!

Bout of Books Day 3

I will admit that day three actually went better than day one and two. I actually read a book. Not one of the books that I was planning on reading, but it is still a book, and it was 197 pages long.

The book that I read was Sisters by Raina Telgemeier. I did read the prequel book, Smile, so I knew what to expect and a little bit more about these characters. In reading other people’s reviews about this book, I did realize that it does make a difference in the understanding of the story and the characters.

This particular comic looked on a road trip that Raina took with her mom, sister, and brother to Colorado. Along the road trip, you get to see some past experiences that Raina had about growing up with her sister and her brother.

I really enjoyed this book. I gave this book five out of five stars on Goodreads.
Mostly it was because I was able to relate to this book so much, with the sibling rivalry, and the love that you have for your siblings. There are moments where the book is touching and sad, but I did see the humor that existed throughout the book.

In looking at the artwork. It was the same as Smile. I did enjoy the color pallet that was chosen, and I also liked how the characters were drawn. Even though they were cartoonish, I still felt as though they were realistically drawn, as proportions wise. There were no super model bodies within the pages of this book.

I do recommend this book. I believe that everyone would love and enjoy this book. However, I will add the stipulation that you do need read Smile before you read this book. The way that this book is written and formatted as though you have read the previous book. I do recommend the previous book, Smiles.

That is it. That so far is what I have accomplished for day three.

I will see you tomorrow. Until then, happy reading!

Bout of Books – Day 6

Okay. I know that I did a review for day six, but I still had plans to continue reading that day. I realize now that I should have waited until today to talk about yesterday, but there is nothing that I can do about that now.

Day six was not that bad. I spent most of the day either working or helping my mom and dad. It was not until 4:00 in the afternoon was I able to start reading. When I wrote about the previous days, I was still thinking about reading more of Thirteen, and I did. More than the 20 pages that I planned. I believe I read about 40 to 50 pages. The book is getting to be really good and intense. In one instance I am having a hard time putting to down, and in another, I am having a hard time continuing because of everything that is happening.

In the end, I really thought that my reading went very well for the day. I will talk to you tomorrow with my wrap-up with this readathon. See you next time. Happy reading!

Bout of Books Day 4, 5, & 6

Alright, the last few days have been hectic. On Thursday my Grandma got sent to the hospital via ambulance due to a high fever. She is doing fine now, but we have been given the notice that she has about two more months to live. That news has not set in yet, due to the fact that I have been trying to balance taking care of my sister, my mom, and helping my mom around the house.

In all that has happened, Thursday was a good day for reading. I was able to finish P.S. I Like You, and I also read It’s Halloween. I have then proceeded to start and continue to read Thirteen on Friday. I am only 74 pages into the book. It is not an easy read. It is definitely an intense thriller book. I am not sure how to word it, but it is not something that you can breeze through.

In the process of the past few days, I was not able to participate in any of the challenges. Thursday’s challenge was to create a tabloid headline with a book that you are currently reading or a book that you have read. At the time I was not sure what I was going to say or which book I was going to pick, and I still don’t know what to do with this challenge. Everything that I came up with sounds dumb. The best one that I can come up with is :”Thirteen-year-old is in danger of death by  crazy millennium cult!”

Friday’s challenge was fun, and I did have a response to it but was not able to get to a computer at all that day. The challenge was to connect a book with a song. Which is interesting because I sometimes naturally do that. For example Face the Fire, the song that I have stuck in my head for it is Lady Gaga’s Judas. Somehow I was reading that book and listening to the Just Born This Way album and the song seemed to fit so much that I am not able to let it go. Judas does fit this song perfectly if you have read this book.

So those have been my last few days. I am hoping to get another 20 pages done with Thirteen before the end of tonight. Then make some more posts for this week. See you next time, and happy reading.

Bout of Books 17 – Day 3

Alright, time to look at how much reading I have done today. Today was a bit different. I feel like I got a lot more reading done today. I am not finished with P.S. I Like You, but today feels different. It probably because there were Twitter posts about just enjoying reading the books that you are reading, and not to worry about the book count. These are the type of statements that I needed to hear. It is making me happier and so much more relieved. I most likely only read 100 pages. As for tomorrow, we will see what I feel like reading. I am most likely sure that I will finish P.S. I Like You tomorrow since I cannot put it down. I am also hoping to start and finish Saga Volume 5. I am not sure what will happen tomorrow.

Now it is time for today’s challenge. Today’s fun challenge was to take a photo of your bookshelf. I hope you enjoy the view. It is not all of my books. Some of my books are at other locations and I have yet to have the time to clean it up. As you can tell, I never finished my Modge Podge project. It still looks good.

IMG_2573[1]I better get going. I need to get ready for work tomorrow. To be honest, I am hoping that I will be responsible enough to get to bed so that I will be awake for tomorrow. I will let you know tomorrow how that turned out. Until next time, happy reading!

Bout of Books 17 – Day 2

Okay… I know what you are thinking. How much reading did I get done today?

Well… I found out that I have made it to chapter 8 before the big reading slump took place for An Ember in the Ashes. I did get through Saga Volume 4 and hopefully, I will get some more reading for P.S. I Like you before bed. As far as the reading count goes, I got through 1 graphic novel and 100 pages.

So what is my plan for tomorrow? Well, I need to finish volume five of Saga, and at least get started on An Ember in the Ashes. I am not sure how that is going to work out, since tomorrow is my really crazy day.

Now let’s move onto the challenge. This sounds easy, but it was a bit challenging and fun. A lot of the books and pages I choose had tons of articles. If you need examples of the different types of articles click on the link to help you out.

The Nickster hosted at Bout of Books — Mix ‘n Match (instructions right below!)

Pick out 10-15 books from your shelf, from your local library, or from a local bookstore. They can be any genre, any language, and any length. In each book, flip to a random page and pick the 1st word (articles such as “the”, “and”, “an”, “or”, etc. don’t count as the 1st word). Use all these 1st words to try to create an actual sentence. If the books are in different languages, feel free to translate them to all one language or leave them as they are! also, you can add in some articles, such as “the”, “and”, “an”, “or”, etc., if you want to make the sentence flow better.

I grabbed 13 books. Here are my books and the words that I grabbed.

  1. An Ember in the Ashes, we (127)
  2. P.S. I Like You, I (247)
  3. City of Bone, one (225)
  4. The Secret Garden, if (127)
  5. Uprooted, light (179)
  6. Stars Above, now (209)
  7. Unwanteds, eliminators (236)
  8. Wicked Lovely, sisters (177)
  9. Counting By 7’s, young (247)
  10. Half Upon A Time, many (201)
  11. This is Where it Ends, would (97)
  12. Dumplin, work (243)
  13. Hamlet, doubt (57)

Here is my sentence

If we light now, the young eliminator sisters would work many doubt.

Sadly, I cannot tell you what it means, but it does sound interesting. I can tell you how much this challenge has highlighted the use of articles that we use everyday in the English Language.

I do hope that you enjoyed this little update. See you soon, and happy reading!
